ISO 9001 was updated in September 2015
The September 2015 revision of ISO 9001 formatted it to Annex SL which standardizes paragraphs of management systems. The format is quite different from the prior revision. Risk-based thinking and company self-evaluation is emphasized.
Registrars are already auditing to ISO 9001:2015.
The clock for the 3 year time frame of when current ISO 9001:2008 certificates must be updated started running in September 2015.
Our advice typically is to plan the new revision upgrade with a surveillance or recertification audit, or consider when deciding whether to become certified to the old 2008 or new ISO 9001:2015 revision.
We believe allowing at least 2-3 months following design, documentation and implementation of the processes of a company’s QMS. This goes as optimal for either updating of current processes and documentation or initial implementation. It allows time for internal audit and discussion in Management Review, which verifies adequacy, functionality, compliance, effectiveness and efficiency.
At AEM we’re refining our approach, involved with several transitions and a new implementation starting with ISO 9001:2015. Also in the works is an update of our ISO 9001 book to: “The ISO 9001:2015 Guidebook: Beyond Survival”, which will include our first-hand experience with the new revision.
